The world is changing…

I feel like I have talked a lot about how the world has been bad for women. Let's now talk about how the world is changing for the sake of women. It’s like I never looked on the other side of the story.
Let’s now discuss the side where people are making a difference in society. There are people, different organizations and groups working hard to make a difference in the world so that it is a place where everyone is equal.
World wide people have been trying to end all forms of discrimination against women. The UN has set goals that are to be achieved in order to demolish gender inequality.
Some of the goals the UN has set are-

  • Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation.
  • Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage.
  • Recognize and value unpaid care and domestic work through the provision of public services, infrastructure, and social protection policies and the promotion of shared responsibility within the household and the family as nationally appropriate
  • Ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision making in political, economic and public life.

All of this is from the UN. There have been many instances where Indians have worked hard to hereby create a difference in society. Two of these instances are mentioned below.
An old Indian man who works for the girls who were orphaned in the 2013 Uttarakhand flood. Nearly 1500-2000 children were orphaned during this flood. According to Mr. Kala, it is harder for orphaned girls to find jobs and earn money. He requested the government to give these girls residential place and free education till grade 12. Mr. Kala calls his work ‘A citizen’s social responsibility’ and believes that it is every citizen’s responsibility to help a fellow man.
The other instance is- The 81-year-old nun who is working to increase the contribution of women in the Indian economy by bringing the skilled women of rural India to the forefront. Sister Rosalia has been working for the past 25 years for this very cause.
One last thing where I thought that people are becoming thoughtful. Dangal girl Babita Phogat got tied up in marriage with Bharat Kesari wrestler Vivek Suhag after eight rounds. Explain, both of them gave the message of 'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao' instead of seven rounds. They are not doing anything huge but they are making a slight change in the traditions just for an important message to circulate and fit in.
As I said previously the world is not a bad place and it is slowly improving and it isn’t a sudden change it will take time. Right now thinking what we at our levels can do and giving it time to change is the most important thing.

Question of the blog- What can we on our level do to bring about a change in society?

  1. Each individual in their little capacity has the ability to make a difference in the society. Change cannot be measured as Big or Small. It's just that if every person realize their responsibility toward the betterment of the society, Change occurs.
