How I became a feminist? To be honest I used to be misogynistically driven until this one incident took place. If you remember by chance the Bollywood actress Zaira Wasim who worked in ‘Dangal’, ‘Secret Superstar’ and ‘The Sky Is Pink’. This actress back in 2017(seems like a long time) made a video where she showed how she was molested by a passenger sitting behind her. This man recently got sentenced for 3 years of jail. The video went viral and I had the opinion that why did she think it was important to tell everyone, could she not just keep it to herself. I was very naive about such cases. I didn’t know about Nirbhaya neither did I know about the acid attacks. I wouldn’t have had an idea of any of this if after that incident if someone wouldn’t have had an eye-opening talk with me. I had the point of view that there was no need for her to come out in the open and tell people her problem. I thought it would be embarrassing but I didn’t know how wrong it was not to tell...

The world is changing…   I feel like I have talked a lot about how the world has been bad for women. Let's now talk about how the world is changing for the sake of women. It’s like I never looked on the other side of the story.   Let’s now discuss the side where people are making a difference in society. There are people, different organizations and groups working hard to make a difference in the world so that it is a place where everyone is equal.   World wide people have been trying to end all forms of discrimination against women. The UN has set goals that are to be achieved in order to demolish gender inequality.   Some of the goals the UN has set are-   Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation. Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage. Recognize and value unpaid care and domestic work...

Building the world   Women of India have been making us proud. They are making us proud in every possible way. We have heard about them in sports, entertainment, literature, and politics. We have continuously known about them in the UN and the scientific fields. Vidisha Maitra, Paulomi Tripathi, and Eenam Gambhir are the 3 Indian women who made us proud through the power of speech in the UN. They made India proud just by the power of words.  Allow me to tell you a bit about the strong women we are reading about in this blog.  Vidisha Maitra is the Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs and she became the pride of India when she strongly answered the Prime Minister of our neighboring country.   https://aajtak.intoday.in/story/india-right-to-reply-vidisha-maitra-first-secretary-pakistan-imran-khan-speech-at-un-updates-1-1123909.html Paulomi Tripathi is the junior-most officer in the Permanent Mission in New York who exposed Pakistan's lie...

Periods are not taboo! Health is the state of being free from illness or injury. Hygiene is the condition or practice conducive to maintaining health and preventing disease, especially through cleanliness.   We know how important it is to maintain both of these for everyone. No caste, gender or religion is an exception!   We also know that everyone around the world is not privileged enough to have a proper supply of resources to maintain hygiene. I feel like in these conditions women are the worst affected.   Menstruation is also known as periods still remain a taboo in many parts of the world. Menstruation is actually the basic and most important part of a female's life.   The beginning of menstruation marks the beginning of a new phase in a women’s life. It is an important part of the reproductive cycle of the female. Then why is it considered taboo? What is the significance of technological advancements in today’s world if there are still many m...

How does the way of dressing change people’s mindset? Hello again!   Is a woman’s safety decided by the clothes she wears?  There’s this incident that took place recently. I learned from that incident! I learnt that if a female wears short clothes it means she is inviting people to rape or harass her, isn’t it true?   I use Instagram where I came across a video of a woman commenting on a girl that she should get raped only because the girl was wearing a short dress.   The girl was harassed by the middle-aged woman. The girl narrated what happened.   She said, “This middle-aged woman addressed seven men at the restaurant to rape us because she felt we deserved it for wearing short clothes and bashing her unsolicited opinion. For speaking up against her primitive mindset”.   I was shocked and angry at the same time while watching the video. I was extremely mad at the woman who said that and I was completely in support of the girls w...

How safe is the world for women? The world is not a safe place for women, is it?   According to the facts, India is the world’s most unsafe place for women. I am an Indian and I am proud to be one. But am I really supposed to be proud to be from a country where the Nirbhaya case or the Kathua case took place? Ever heard of these extremely violent or as we can say these unimaginable, disgraceful acts of some of the people from the same country I am so proud of.   I know that India is an extremely beautiful and diverse place but it is also home for some people like those. I really don’t understand what satisfaction do these people get after finishing their act of violent behavior towards the opposite gender.   Is it not our duty to make the world a safe place so that the women out there are not scared to go out at night or come home from the office or a party late night? There are 58,64,69,174 females in India out of which in 2016, 30,000 were raped or h...
