How safe is the world for women?
The world is not a safe place for women, is it?
According to the facts, India is the world’s most unsafe place for women. I am an Indian and I am proud to be one. But am I really supposed to be proud to be from a country where the Nirbhaya case or the Kathua case took place? Ever heard of these extremely violent or as we can say these unimaginable, disgraceful acts of some of the people from the same country I am so proud of.
I know that India is an extremely beautiful and diverse place but it is also home for some people like those. I really don’t understand what satisfaction do these people get after finishing their act of violent behavior towards the opposite gender.
Is it not our duty to make the world a safe place so that the women out there are not scared to go out at night or come home from the office or a party late night?
There are 58,64,69,174 females in India out of which in 2016, 30,000 were raped or harrassed, but experts say that the number is way larger because not all cases are reported.
98% of the rapists are the people who personally knew the victim. Rape here in India is the fourth most common crime against women.
These are just the facts and figures which I have collected and put together from here and there.
But, I have some questions; as I am a girl and I am only 15 years old. These questions may be silly for you but I still haven’t gotten a rock-solid answer for these.
Why are the parents of a 7 year old scared to send their daughter to school in the public transport, or why should the parents of a 16-year-old be scared to send their daughter out for college or parents of a 24-year-old to send their daughter out for work.
I really don’t know, it's just that if you want the daughters of your country to learn then you have to stop being scared, right? ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ right? Are you sure we are living up to this slogan by not sending our daughters out there to face the world?
I think parents must have a solid reason for doing so and not sending their daughters out.

| This picture above makes us realize women's real strength. |
One personal example about my mother, she is an independent lady. She has studied out of her hometown and also traveled places alone with her elder sister. My mom tells me not to go anywhere alone, not even to the washroom while on school trips.
She says it is not worth trusting anyone in today’s world, is this true too?
I know that not all the women out there are feminists, me being a teenager neither do I know if I am living up to the definition of being a feminist? But, I think I know one thing, that is there are many people out there who are surely for women’s safety but just cannot do something as big as changing the mindset of everyone.
I know that it will be really hard to achieve a safer living condition for females but we sure can make it happen. We can do this by better judiciary systems, quicker arrests, educating men against such kinds of practices, making women aware of self-defense and importantly teaching men to protect women instead of harassing them.
Question of the blog- What more ways do you have for increasing women’s safety?
