Empowering women
Women’s empowerment is not an add-on to the development but is at the core of development. -Melinda Gates
Hello dear readers,
This is my first out of the set of 11 blogs. My first blog as a 15-year-old will be about-
  • What I think is feminism?
  • What people think is feminism?
  • Why unequal wages?
I will start by telling you the basic definition of feminism. Feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes. From my point of view, feminism is equality, THAT’S IT ! just equality and no discrimination.
Yes, there is a feeling in people's minds that women who are feminists hate men or want to kill men. That kind of mentality is being a misandrist and some women are misandrists. They are the people who hate men and look down at them but it is of course not true for everyone, is it? Feminists are just the people who want equality among the genders.
I think feminism is females getting the same opportunities as males, females getting the same career choices as males, females getting to play whichever sport they wish to, males taking responsibilities for domestic work as well, females getting the same job opportunities as males and females not losing their jobs because they are not males.
Here’s an incident, “During her Oscars acceptance speech in February, the actress Patricia Arquette highlighted the need to bridge the wage gap in all industries and earned a standing ovation from several audience members, including Meryl Streep and Jennifer Lopez.” “It's our time to have wage equality once and for all, and equal rights for women in the United States of America,” she said.
This is a film industry story which is very relatable and known to us I think. As you know we can relate to this. As we have come across the film industry gender inequality, let's see a bit more(these facts might be interesting ;) )(American film industry “HOLLYWOOD”)-

Now a bit about the Indian film industry is which as I quote “BOLLYWOOD”-
“I feel it every year, especially when you’re doing movies with really big actors, whether it’s in India or America… I’ve been told straight up if it’s a female role in a movie with big male actors attached, your worth is not really considered as much.”-Priyanka Chopra
“If we, as actresses, keep instilling this inferiority complex in girls, there is no hope for better times. Personally, my logic for remuneration has always been that I have 365 days to work, as much as any male star. An actor's pay must be determined by the amount of work s/he does. Your gender is no yardstick for it.”-Kangana Ranaut.

And these are the well-known and those industries to which we as an audience look at as the most developed groups.
I know this is not a heavy blog or something like that but it is the first step towards writing in-depth. A question everyone should be asking themselves that if a male and the female work the same why does the male get paid more than the female. I also know that unequal wages is a huge topic and I won’t be able to cover the whole of it but I will start from the grass root and go all the way to the tip of the shoot.
In the context of working, enjoying what you do and not being scared of what people will say I would like to end my blog with a quote by  Eleanor Roosevelt- “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

  16. So beautifully written and articulated at this age - not just in entertainment industry, we experience differences in technology, mass communication, arts, science, law, to name a few. It was mostly clear from time to time and even now , how we women are differently compensated than men. In my mind a lot of us are afraid to identify with the word ‘Feminism’ due to some sort of alienation fear with peers/ friends / work or community overall. It is important to understand the relevance of Feminism. There is nothing uncomfortable and I enjoyed reading you blog, in which you have spoken up. I look forward to seeing more. ❤️

    1. Hey, I am sorry for replying late but now that I have read your question let me answer. Me being a girl I have heard people say to boys, don't cry you are not a girl or why are you growing your hair are you a girl. I don't think it it their fault because they have been raised in that way. So, making a change starts from making children of this generation aware to the fact that all genders are equal and there is no discrimination. I have heard a boy say that why should females be allowed to drive I don't know if it is completely his fault but it's the mysogynistic society that has given him that way of thinking.
And as I gave some examples, yes i have faced or seen situations with discrimination.
