What to discuss?
I really don’t know how to start or what to say in this blog. I really had no idea about what could be written in this blog. After brainstorming, I thought of women empowerment around the world. As we have discussed feminism and what it is not; I thought about how different countries react or deal with women empowerment.
I asked myself questions like, is it true that all the well-developed countries do not have to face problems regarding gender equality? Is it true that only the underdeveloped countries have to strive and face problems regarding gender equality?
Both of these questions keep on striking my mind and I keep on asking myself the truth; I keep on trying to seek the answers to these questions somehow.
I don’t know the exact answer to this question but I am sure that there is an answer. After I read a bit more about women empowerment I came across the Hollywood incident which I mentioned in my first blog. (https://weforher.blogspot.com/2019/08/p_14.html) After reading the wage gap in Hollywood incidents and reading about this topic I don’t think that gender equality is a problem only for the less developed countries it can be an issue in the well-developed countries as well.
The countries we think as well developed and modernized, are they modernized in their thoughts as well. Do we ever think in that direction?
In India, there have been stories where the women are the heroes of their own lives and they have made a significant difference in society. Starting from RAZIA SULTAN the stories never really ended. To name a few more- RANI LAKSHMI BAI, LEILA SETH, BHANWARI DEVI, MITHALI RAJ, POORNA MALAVATH. The list is actually quite long.
We have known about ladies from India but do we know that there have been women who have suffered a lot just for their rights out of India.
Eleanor Roosevelt is the former first lady of the USA. She was an American political figure, diplomat and activist. During her 12 years as the first lady, the unprecedented breadth of Eleanor’s activities and her advocacy of liberal causes made her nearly as controversial a figure as her husband. Like most women who became leaders of the women's movement, she became aware of the barriers women faced while working with other women on other social justice issues. ER's commitment to women's full recognition by and participation in American politics and business was intense and she worked with women's groups around the nation to build their political base.
This is just one story from outside India, there have been many such stories.
- Audrey Hepburn- Audrey made pants a female fashion statement, and her love of flats gave women an out from towering stilettos. But she was always at odds with her fame.
These are examples from all over the world. Princess Diana of Wales is one more famous woman who struggled for her rights or what we can call it freedom. She did die at a very young age in a car crash (but there are still people who say it wasn’t an accident)
I really don’t know if people still think that women's empowerment is a problem only for India and nowhere else. I don’t think in that way now that I have read a bit about it.
Question of the blog- Do you think that women's empowerment is not a problem for the developed countries?
